Bottleneck Traffic in Escazú
On Travelling on the autopista Prospero
Fernández between San José and Escazú will
be even more difficult as of Saturday when
work on the expansion of the bridge over
Agres river, west of Plaza Izkatzu, will
commence and lane closures are in store.
Traffic through the area between the
Gimnasio Nacional at the east of the Sabana
Park and Piedades has been difficult,
sometimes taking up to an hour or more, as
widening of the highway, rescontruction of
bridges, installing overpasses and storm
drains, has affected traffic flow through
the area.
The work to begin on Saturday is the last of
the bridges that need to be expanded or
reconstructed, as the Prospero Fernández
becomes a six lane highway from the Gimnasio
Nacional to Multiplaza and four lanes
continuing to Piedades.
Traffic between the Escazú intersection and
Multiplaza will be a nightmare, as the
highway will be reduced to one lane in each
direction and complete closures at times on
the San José-Escazú direction. Transport
officials say traffic officials will be on
the scene to divert traffic.
Making things even worse is the closure of
the road that leads from Multiplaza to
Office Depot, as the municipalidad de San
Escazú announced a complete closure as work
progresses on the latest addition to
Multiplaza.
Transport officials say the work will take
about a month to complete.
Traffic between the Santa Ana intersection
and Piedades is also reduced to one lane in
each direction, as work crews have begin
with the final asphalt coat of the highway.
