Ecuador, Paraguay Strengthen Ties

Rafael Correa and Fernando Lugo have pledged
to strengthen bilateral relations between
Ecuador and Paraguay, as well as regional
integration.
I have come to deepen the integration drive,
Ecuador´s Correa said shortly before being
decorated with the Francisco Solano Lopez
Order, Paraguay's maximum distinction.
Correa, a critici of neoliberal policies for
their essentially-excluding nature,
highlighted new horizon of justice, peace
and equity are now opening to Ecuador,
Paraguay, Argentina, Chile, Uruguay,
Venezuela, Bolivia, Nicaragua and El
Salvador.
President Lugo referred to the history of
struggle shared by Paraguay and Ecuador. It
is urgent to build a social foundation to
eliminate extreme poverty in our nations, he
stressed.
Lugo also criticized the "1990s disastrous
neoliberal policies " that forced hundreds
of thousands of Ecuadorians and Paraguayans
to emigration.
After holding official talks, the two heads
of State signed several cooperation
agreements on such issues as migration,
consular affairs, environment and the
restitution of cultural assets.
