Bogota - The Permanent Assembly of
Civil Society for Peace announced Tuesday
the sending of a letter to participants in
Las Americas Summit demanding support for a
political solution to Colombian conflict.
The meeting of Heads of States is scheduled
for next April in Port of Spain, capital of
Trinidad and Tobago.
The document asks the leaders to seek for
peaceful solutions to the armed conflict and
offer territories for possible talks between
the Colombian government and the guerrilla.
It also emphasized that Colombia needs the
International Community's support to
reintegrate itself among the nations
building a future of peace giving a solution
to their social and political conflicts
without violence.
The text explained the country is moving
among talks with partial success and
military offensive and the conflict
continues and degrade, deepen the human
crisis and divert resources in military
expenses necessary to overcome poverty and
provide state of rights.
It added the armed internal conflict tends
to go beyond the borders and represent a
challenge for security in the region and
challenge for integration.
The letter addressed to participating
leaders to the Summit will be officially
presented by a delegation with voice in this
regional meeting.
