El Salvador - Salvadorian
president-elect Mauricio Funes will meet
with U.S. Vice President Joseph Biden in
Costa Rica next week, government officials
said on Tuesday.
According to information reaching here from
San Salvador, Salvadorian Foreign Minister
Marisol Argueta said on Tuesday that current
Salvadorian president Antonio Saca has
invited Funes to be part of the delegation
to attend the meeting from March 29 to 30.
The meeting between Biden and Central
American presidents is an initiative from
Costa Rican President Oscar Arias.
According to Costa Rican Foreign Minister
Bruno Stagno the presidents and Biden will
probably discuss issues related to the world
economic crisis and its impact on the
region.
Argueta said that Funes was also invited to
attend the Summit of the Central American
Integration System (SICA) to be held in
Nicaragua on Wednesday and The Americas
Summit in Trinidad and Tobago from April 17
to 19.
However, Funes will not attend the meeting
in Nicaragua because he is on a working
visit in Brazil.
In the Americas summit Funes is expected to
meet with Argentine President Cristina
Fernandez and U.S. president Barack Obama.
