Announces Increasing Forces In Costa Rica
Jean-Michel Halfon, Susan Silbermann, Jorge
Bracero and Sylvia Varela, leaders of Pfizer
for the Latin and Central American regions
made an official visit to the President of
Costa Rica to announce their support to the
government economic initiatives and the
reinforcement of the local business.
The good performance of Pfizer Central
America within the corporation encouraged
the decision to concentrate the
administration of 33 countries from Costa
Rica. “After more than 50 years, Pfizer
remains committed to Costa Rica and will
continue to strengthen our business
operations here. I am pleased to announce
that Pfizer Costa Rica will now be the Hub
for all of our Central America Divisions and
the Caribbean,” said Jean-Michel Halfon,
President of Pfizer for the Emerging
Markets.
Pfizer applauded the initiatives of the
Costa Rican government to develop preventive
measures ahead of the crisis and raised its
commitment with the company stability by
announcing that as of January, the business
will be managed from Costa Rica towards 33
countries of Central America and the
Caribbean. This decision will fortify the
balance of payments when causing an increase
in the exports registered from our country.
The President affirmed that the world lives
"a critical situation that has reemerged
terrible flagella such as company
bankruptcies, massive staff layoffs,
including recession in economically

added Oscar Arias, President of Costa Rica
Fight against the tobacco.
As part of the official visit, Pfizer
representatives were pleased with the
alliance carried out jointly with the
Ministry of Health and IAFA () in the
Advertising Campaign “I killed”, which
informs the population of the harmful
effects of tobacco in health. In addition,
they manifested their support to the
commitment demonstrated by Dr. Maria Luisa
Avila, Minister of Health in promoting the
implementation of the WHO’s Framework
Convention on Tobacco Control.
The General Manager for Pfizer Central
America, Sylvia Varela, stated “the
implementation of this Agreement has been
led by the Ministry of Health, with whom we
have worked side by side to generate
consciousness on the consequences of tobacco
addiction in the public health. Tobacco
addiction is the first cause of disease and
premature mortality in the world, causing
more than a million deaths per year in our
continent.”
Health authority reports indicate that
cigarette smoke damages almost all body
organs, being cause of 90% of all lung
tumors, 75% of emphysema cases and chronic
bronchitis, and 25% of ischemic cardiac
disease cases.
Pfizer is a pharmaceutical company dedicated
to the investigation of new therapeutic,
safe and effective options, to help people
have longer and healthier lives. CHAMPIX is
one of their new scientific developments,
indicated for the smoking cessation process,
with more than 5 million prescriptions in
the United States since its market launch.
