San Salvador - The Farabundo Martí National
Liberation Front (FMLN) of El Salvador is
tuning Friday the last details of a great
logistical operation to guarantee the
massive attendance to the ballot boxes on
Sunday.
A characteristic of the electoral system is
that in many occasions people should travel
or walk big distances to exercise the vote,
due to the negative of the authorities of
approving the vote to domicile.
Under these conditions transport becomes a
key element for the success of the event,
said Orestes Ortez, elected deputy of FMLN.
Although the government pays the managers so
that they offer the service for free in the
day of the elections, in occasions the
drivers only take two or three trips and
then they go to their houses, Ortez assured.
That is why, he said, a national plan was
implemented where about 10,000 militants and
collaborators take part, to mobilize people
as much in the capital as in all the
departments, municipalities and remote
communities.
"We will count on numerous taxis for those
citizens that require special conditions, as
women in an advanced state of pregnancy,
older or disabled men and women, who want to
exercise their civic right," he stated.
Apart from this, he explained, those who
accompanied in their vehicles to the
caravans of the candidates of the FMLN
during the proselytizing campaign and now
they will put them to the population's
service, will also be there, he pointed out.
This Sunday, 4.2 million citizens are
summoned to choose the next president and
vice-president of the country.
As there are just two political forces to
participate, the FMLN and the Nationalist
Republican Alliance, the one which achieves
simple majority, although this is of a
single vote, will be the winner.
