Nicaragua 33 Percent Illiteracy Free
Managua - Nicaraguan authorities will be
adding 14 more municipalities as Territories
Free of Illiteracy in commemoration of the
Sandinista Popular Revolution later this
month, an official source informed.
According to Reynaldo Mairena, general
director of Literacy and Education of Youth
and Adults, of the Education ministry
(MINED), 56 out of 153 municipalities that
have now eliminated this scourge.
As part of the offensive developed by
President Daniel Ortega and ALBA member
countries Nicaragua received 13 Venezuelan
collaborators.
Twenty more will arrive in the near future
and will be sent to the departments of
Boaco, Chontales, Nueva Zelaya, Jinotega and
Matagalpa, to support the application of the
Cuban method “Yes I can” and help the
country declare itself free of illiteracy.
More than 240,000 Nicaraguans have benefited
with this program and the goal is to reach
July 13 with it accomplished, Mairena
emphasized.
