Proposes "Unemployment Benefits" Due To
Economic Crisis
Legislator for the PLN party, Fernando
Sánchez, is proposing to establish a fund
for "unemployment benefits" as a temporary
measure to help out those losing their jobs
during the current economic crisis.
The proposal if for the government to pay to
the unemployed ˘174.400 (us$310) monthly for
a period of up to six months to anyone who
has been fired from their job.
The fundm, under the proposal, would be
manager by the Ministerio de Trabajo (Labour
Ministry) which would be funded by issuing a
˘10 billion colones bond and receiving 1% of
the budget of public institutions.
The Sánchez proposal would mean financial
help for up to 100.000 who lose their jobs
due to the economic crisis.
The legislation, according to the proposal
tabled by Sánchez, would be in force for
only two years and would be extended if the
economic crisis continues.
The law would require a person to show that
he or she has no other source or means of
income, he or she was fired with "responsabilidad
patronal" (employer liability) and agree to
undergo a training process by the Instituto
Nacional de Aprendizaje (INA) - national
technical institute.
Sánchez said that the requirements are so
that a person becomes idle simply to receive
the temporary government benefits.
The legislator is asking fellow legislators
to approve his plan and that the government
include it in its "Plan Escudo" proposal
presented by Costa Rican president, Oscar
Arias, to face the ecomonic crisis. |
