Kirchner Admits Defeat in Buenos Aires

Buenos Aires -  The president of the Justicialista Party, Nestor Kirchner, on Monday recognized his defeat in the partial legislative elections, and called to increase governability as a clear alternative during the 2011 presidential elections.

In Buenos Aires, the recently created conservative alliance Union-PRO, headed by millionaire tycoon Francisco de Narvaez, obtained 34.6 percent of votes against the 32.1 percent by the Justicialista Front for Victory (FJPV) led by Kirchner, after 96.6 percent of votes had been counted.

In this territory, the most important nationwide for the number of voters, 35 legislative seats were disputed.

Kirchner today called upon his followers to stand by the government to keep building an inclusive productive model, and consolidate changes.

"We have lost by a narrow margin, have fought with dignity, have won in many provinces, and are on the way to retake the initiative and strengthen governability," the former president of the country reiterated.
