¢120 Per Litre More For Gasoline by July;
First Increase Due On Saturday
The director de Energía of the Aresep,
Álvaro Barrantes, price of a litre of
gasoline could be as much as ¢100 colones or
more by July, the first increase due this
Saturday.
The first increase take effect at 12:01am
Saturday, when the price of a litre of super
will go from the current ¢452 to ¢492;
regular plus from ¢435 to ¢472; and diesle
from ¢354 to ¢400.
Barrantes said that an increase of up to ¢80
colones for gasoline and ¢40 for diesel
could be approved for July.
The increase to take place on Saturday was
approved last week by the Autoridad
Reguladora de los Servicios Públicos (Aresep)
una nueva solicitud de alza, at the request
of the state refinery, the Refinadoa
Costarricense de Petroleo SA (Recope),
basing it on the increase of crude oil
prices on international markets.
Best is to fill your gasoline tank today, if
possible, as the line ups at the gasoline
station will be long and some gasoline
stations are sure to close early.
Some gasoline station operators have taken
to the illegal practice of closing early,
claiming to be sold out, hours before a
scheduled price increase, only to re-open
after the increase takes effect, selling the
cheaper gas in their tanks for the higher
price.
