Tighten The Purse Strings, ¢40 Gas Price Hike Approved

The Autoridad Reguladora de los Servicios Públicos (Aresep) yesterday approved a hike in gasoline price by ¢40 colones for a litre of super, ¢37 for regular or Plus91 and ¢46 for diesel.

The price hike will go into effect next week, the day following the printing of the notice in the official government publication, La Gaceta.

The publication is expected to next Friday (June 12), which means prices will be changed at the pumps at 12:01am Saturday (June 13).

The increase is based on the rising prices of crude oil on international markets.

The Aresep said that this could be the first of more gas price hikes as international markets prices continuing spiraling upwards.
