Venezuela Takes Legal Action on Media

Caracas - Venezuelan lawyers announced Tuesday that they will begin legal action against communication media calling for the assassination and murder of deputies, which is being termed, "media terrorism."

The coordinator of the Front of Socialist Lawyers of the state of Zulia, Victor Chourio, said that this is with regard to the private channels Globovisión and RCTV and the regional newspaper La Verdad.

"Zulia deputies should be hung in the middle of an avenue," stated a headline of the newspaper La Verdad recently. Globovisión, has published calls made by opponents, calling for assassinations.

The Constitution guarantees the right to health, and they are attacking this right, and as a consequence they are making a mistake, a criminal act, for what we will exercise the pertinent actions," Chourio said according to a report of Radio Nacional of Venezuela.

In addition to legal action, on June 12 the Front of Socialist Lawyers will carry out a forum on media terrorism and strategies to combat it.
