Colombian President Demands Quick Rescue of Kidnapped Councilor
Bogota -  Colombian President Alvaro Uribe on Sunday urged the military forces to rescue a politician kidnapped by rebels as soon as possible.

"We will pay attention to all the councilors of Colombia. What happened in Garzon? It must be clarified in the coming days. The priority now is to rescue the kidnapped councilor," Uribe said.

Jose Armando Acuna, a councilor of Garzon, was kidnapped Friday by the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), the country's largest rebel group.

Uribe said FARC entered the Justice Palace of Garzon where they kidnapped Acuna.

Meanwhile, Orlando Perez, police officer in charge of citizen security, said FARC had attempted to kidnap all the councilors from Garzon and the mayor, Edgar Bonilla.

The National Federation of Councilors said in a report that 312councilors have been killed in the last eight years by illegal groups.
