Denies Alleged Ties With Hezbollah
Caracas - The Venezuelan
government rejected on Tuesday Israel's accusations
of its ties with the Islamic group Hezbollah in
Venezuela.
"Those ridiculous statements are part of a plan
plotted by the Israeli ultra right, in order to
encourage and promote actions of different kinds
against the Venezuelan government and people," the
Venezuelan Foreign Ministry said in a communique.
Dora Shavit, Israeli Foreign Ministry's regional
director for Latin American and the Caribbean, said
in an interview with Colombian daily "El Tiempo"
that Hezbollah has presence in Guajira,
Colombia-Venezuela border, and in Margarita island,
Venezuela.
Venezuela requested the Israeli authorities to stop
the destabilization policy in Latin America.
"The terrorists who put risk on the life of
thousands of innocent people are not being trained
in the Venezuelan Guajira, but in the quarters and
public buildings of Israel," the Venezuelan
government said in a statement.
The relation between Venezuela and Israel worsened
at the beginning of this year, as Israel failed to
fulfill the resolutions of the United Nations
Security Council on its military incursions in Gaza
Strip.
