Downpours In
Northern Zone and Caribbean While Sun Keeps
on Shining In Central Valley
While the weather in the Central Valley has
been more like summer, no rain for almost a
week, residents of northern zone and the
Caribbean coast are on the alert for
flooding due to downpours in the past day.
The Comisión Nacional de Emergencias (CNE)
reports problems in Upala, where the local
river overflowed its banks, isolating some
15 people to leave their homes and take
shelter in the community centre.
The rivers, Guacalito, Pizotillo and Zapote
are full and with a little more rain could
also overflow their banks, causing even more
hardships in the area.
Upala emergency officials are asking people
living close to the edges of the rivers to
seek higher ground, but many are not taking
heed to the warning.
The area of Limón is also seeing downpours
since Sunday, when two homes in Pacuare were
affected by a landslide, leaving 10 people
without a home.
The Comisión Nacional de Emergencias (CNE)
said it is moving machinery and personnel in
the area for a quick response to any
emergency. |
