Evo Morales to Pay Brief Visit to Uruguay
Montevideo - Bolivian
President Evo Morales will pay a brief courtesy
visit to Uruguay on Monday to review major bilateral
and regional issues with his counterpart, Tabare
Vazquez.
Sources from the Bolivian embassy here told Prensa
Latina that Morales will arrive in Montevideo at
about 15:00 hours (local time) and will return home
shortly after midnight.
During the visit, Morales and Vazquez will analyze
major issues such as Bolivia's use of Uruguayan
ports to materialize its old wish of having access
to the sea.
The two presidents will also review the feasibility
of the Hydroway Project, a 2,138-mile fluvial
corridor along the axis made up by the rivers
Paraguay and Parana, in the Rio de La Plata basin.
The bilateral agenda includes the common interest in
refloating Urupabol, a mechanism of
economic-commercial exchange and political
consultations, which involves Paraguay as well. It
was in force until the 1970s and could be the
foundation of trilateral integration, mainly in the
energy sector.
Prensa Latina learned unofficially that members of
Uruguayan political and social organizations would
gather in front of the Municipal Council to express
support for the process of changes that Evo Morales
is implementing in Bolivia.
Last week, as a preamble and preparation for
Morales's visit, the Fifth Meeting of the
Uruguay-Bolivia Mechanism of Coordination and
Consultations was held in Montevideo to review
issues of common interest, including Bolivia's
access to the sea. |
