Alicia Alonso: Fruitful Reencounter with
Nicaragua

Alonso described her gathering with the
Nicaraguan people as an enriching
reencounter after 18 years, during a short
period of time she and the Cuban ballet
company, led by her, shared here.
Alonso in interview she ecalled the
joy of the audience during the performances.
They enthusiastically applauded them in the
precise moments and warmly welcomed us with
love.
She received an endless ovation at the time
she showed up to thank the warm welcome of
the audience to Cuban National Ballet. She
described it as an emotional moment for her
and expressed how much she would have liked
to be dancing at that moment with an
audience like that, although in some way I
metaphorically also danced with each one of
them.
Those presentations were highly marked at
the end with the official awarding of the
golden Medal to Prima Ballerina Assoluta
Alicia Alonso to mark the 40 years of the
inauguration of Ruben Dario Theatre, place
where she first danced Giselle abroad, she
stressed.
She also received a recognition diploma from
the hands of Nicaraguan Culture Minister
Luis Morales.
Alonso will also receive during coming days
a new tribute in the island, homage to be
paid by London Royal Ballet, "one of the
most prestigious ballet companies of the
world" on July 15. |
