Honduras Normalizes
Flights at Toncontin Airport
Tegucigalpa - The
direction from the Civil Aeronautic of
Honduras announced on Tuesday the
normalization of flights at Toncontin
Airport and that everything was operating
with "tranquility."
Director from the Civil Aeronautic, Alfredo
San Martin told local media that the
obstacles at the runway to impede the
landing of ousted President Manuel Zelaya on
Sunday, have been already moved.
Spokesmen from the control tower of
Toncontin airport told Xinhua that the
international and national flights were
"operating with normality" since 11:30 a.m.
local time.
The airport was closed for 48 hours after
militaries and policemen clashed with
Zelaya's followers, with two killed.
Zelaya tried to land in Toncontin aboard a
Venezuelan plane, while he was acclaimed in
land by thousands of followers.
The runway was blocked by military trucks to
impede the landing, while Zelaya's followers
tried to enter the runway to open place for
the plane, which led to a violent clash.
On Tuesday Zelaya's wife, Xiomara Castro led
marches in his favor.
