World Bank’s Zoellick Says Aid
to Honduras on Hold Amid Crisis

(Bloomberg) -- World Bank President
Robert Zoellick said the lender has put on
hold aid to Honduras during the Central
American country’s political crisis, which
he cautioned might turn into a setback for
the region.
“We basically put a pause with our lending.
We had some items that were going to go to
our board and we’ve held those off for now,”
Zoellick said today on a conference call
with reporters. “It could be a setback for
the larger issue of Central America
integration.”
Zoellick, who is to attend a July 2-3
meeting in Santiago, Chile, of finance
ministers from North, Central and South
America, also said the global economy faces
the possibility of “waves” of further
turmoil.
“Financial markets have broken their fall,”
Zoellick said. “But there’s still great
uncertainty about the scope and timing of
the recovery” and “there are risks that can
threaten the turnaround,” he said.
