4.0 Quake Shakes San
José
The first noticeable
quake of 2009 with a
tremor registering 4.0
on the Richter scale was
felt in San José and the
Central Valley Wednesday
morning.
The tremor, lasting
several minutes, hit
about 10am although it
was only felt by
residents for not more
than a few seconds.
The quake centred 5
kilometres east of the
Poás volcano and depth
of 6 kilometres,
according to the
Obvservatorio
Vulcanológico y
Sismológico de Costa
Rica (OVSICORI).
No damages or injuries
were reported.
Last year Costa Rica
rolled and shook on
4.746 occasions,
although only 60 or so
were felt, with the
strongest, registering
6.2, occurring on
November 19.
