My husband and I visited the park in September and I was glad to
read that something is being done at Manuel Antonio. For all the
publicity as to the beauty of the area, it had little to offer in
the way of amenities. The restrooms were very smelly and dirty, the
entrance left a lot to be desired, and there were few places that
hikers along the trails could sit and rest and observe the natural
beauty of the area.
Simple wooden benches or large logs would have been welcomed for
those of us a bit older who needed a stop now and then.
It would seem that a visitor's center at least as nice as Poas'
would be in order. A bit of history of the area, educational
displays of some of the flora and fauna to orient one as to what to
look for would ad so much to the visit. The trail guides are very
good, but the park itself should reinforce what the guides provide
to make the trip more meaningful.
The simple huts at the Guayabo Ruins did not cost much to install
and a visit to the exhibits was a good beginning orientation and a
nice summary at the end of the tour.
