Nicaragua Dairy Exports May Reach $200 Million

Managua - Nicaragua Dairy exports may round $200 million in 2009, said Wilmer Fernandez, president of the Dairy Chamber.

Fernandez told La Primerisima radio station that the sector confronted serious set backs in 2008 due to bad roads affected by heavy rains and National Assembly Liberals refusal to allocate repair funds.

Fernandez rated the 2008 loses in $50 million which he blamed to failure to collect the products because of bad roads.

Sales were limited to $123 million when out put could have yielded $173 million.

He said the roads prevent timely milk transfers to collection centers, affecting the quality of products, in many cases leading to total loss.
