Panama Fights Drug trafficking

Panama - Among their priorities the Panamanian authorities are aimed at fighting drug trafficking with a favorable result of 3.6 tons of drugs confiscated in 2009.

Details from the Public Ministry showed that in January and early in February seizure of those substances reached 1,683 Kilo with a daily average closed to 110 Kilo.

Officials linked to antidrug policy revealed the local press existence of signs claiming the property of loads circulating in the national territory to Mexican organizations of drug trafficking.

In general, those groups obtain the drugs from Colombian dealers and after they have been moved to Panama local groups take care of them.

Among the most significant actions highlights capture of Mexican Edgar Gutierrez in San Miguelito district in an operation where the authorities confiscated about 200 kilo of drugs and 2.5 million dollars cash.

In Veraguas province was reported finding of 130 buried packages of illegal substance with around 2 tons weight.

During the activity of the public force in 2008 seizure reached a volume closed to 53 tons.
