Joins Anti-Crime Pact; To Get $1.5 Million
Police Aid
(AFP)- - Nicaragua signed on Friday as a
member of the Merida Initiative against drug
cartels and organized crime, and will
receive $1.5 million in U.S. aid, the U.S.
State Department said.
The funds are to help Nicaragua's police
improve the sharing of fingerprint
information among Central American
countries, develop a special investigations
unit and equip agents better, the statement
said.
The Merida Initiative was launched in 2007
by the United States, Mexico and Central
American nations.
