Venezuela Review Relations
Beijing - Chinese and Venezuelan
Presidents Hu Jintao and Hugo Chavez,
respectively, held a meeting in the Chinese
capital on Wednesday to review the political
and cooperative relations between both
countries.
Hu welcomed the South American president,
who is paying a working visit to the Asian
country, at the entrance of the People"s
Great Palace, where they later held talks,
surrounded by their respective delegations.
This is the sixth visit to Beijing by
Chavez, a fact that undoubtedly motivated
the Chinese head of State to express his joy
in welcoming him as an old friend of China"s,
and for his work in favor of friendship and
bilateral collaboration.
In his preliminary words, the visitor
praised China"s economic strength, which can
help other countries equip themselves well
in the current international financial
crisis.
He also said the world center has been
displaced and now is in China because some
of the main institutions of the developed
countries, such as the World Bank, have
shown their failure in this crisis.
The Bolivarian president plans to hold a
working meeting on Thursday with Chinese
Vice president Xi Jinping, about the
different economic, energy, infrastructure,
scientific and technical projects, in which
both sides are involved.
This is the fourth stage of Hugo Chavez"
tour of Asia, having previously visited
Qatar, Iran and Japan.
Some of the main interests of the guest are
related to Chinese oil companies"
investments in Venezuela, and in reviewing
the first joint refinery project that will
be built in China as well as the creation of
a joint oil shipping company.
The Venezuelan president said, upon arrival
in this country Tuesday night, that a new
world is rising, the multipolar world that
everyone has dreamed so much about, and that
new power centers are emerging in the
world"s South and East.
Chavez also said this tour would contribute
to shield his country from the crisis, by
means of a boost to economic and social
development projects.
