The airlines flying into Costa Rica has said
that the us$15 tax on all airline tickets
will hurt tourism to Costa Rica, in these
times of crisis.
The us$15 tax replaces the 3% sales tax on
hotel accommodations and is now the
responsibility of the airlines serving Costa
Rica to collect the tax from passengers.
The airlines are protesting the tax to the
Costa Rican government officials.
For now, unless there is a change in
position, the airlines will have to charge
the tax or face losing landing permits to
Costa Rica's airports.
The us$15 tax applies only to visitors who
arrive by air.
