 During the last two years, the Costa Rican currency, the colón, has lost 21 percent of its purchasing power.

This figure results from dividing the consumer price index in July 2006 (the year which serves as the basis for the new index) into de one for August 2008.

The price index in Costa Rica takes in the cost of 292 goods and services.

It takes today ¢548 colones to purchased one US dollar, while on the day last year ¢516 colones  one year ago and ¢517 tow years ago.
