The Cuban Five
PANAMA - The COEPA
(Panama Ecumenical
Committee) expressed
solidarity on Tuesday
with the case of the
five Cuban
antiterrorists
imprisoned in the United
States and their
relatives, fulfilling
obligations to the cause
of human rights and
justice.
An statement broadcasted
on Tuesday and signed by
its president Bishop
Pablo Morales, the COEPA
ratified the call made
on 2006 and 2007 to find
an exit to the
regrettable situation of
the Cuban fighters.
The meeting was attended
by Mirtha Rodriguez,
mother of Antonio
Guerrero, one of the
Five, the COEPA said
that the antiterrorists
were give a total four
life sentences plus 75
years imprisonment.
The statement recalled
the case of their
relatives who undergo
discriminatory migration
procedures to prevent
granting them visas and,
thus, regular visits to
those convicted.
The Committee supported
the principle of justice
and reason in this case.
That would imply a fair
trial outside Miami for
Gerardo Hernandez,
Antonio Guerrero,
Fernando Gonzalez, Ramon
Labanino and Rene
Gonzalez, declared the
organization.
Mirtha Rodriguez, for
her part, thanked the
support and said that
"whoever joins this
cause is going to feel
honored to fight against
such injustice."
