Anti-Election Move

Supreme Court justice
Rafael Solis reiterated
in Managua the
unconstitutional nature
of a opposition bill
that calls to annul the
recent Nicaraguan
elections, considering
that it shows disrespect
to the popular vote.
"The request to have
Managua elections
annulled was crazy and
outside the realm of all
legal order," said the
Sandinista judge, who
chairs the Judiciary's
Constitutional Court,
told local television
Channel 4.
The magistrate recalled
that the article 138 of
the Political
Constitution of this
Central American country
does not grant
jurisdiction to the
National Assembly to
legislate on electoral
issues.
It is not only outside
the realm of electoral
order, but far from it,
it has no power at all
to annul elections,
Solis stated
sententiously, and
denounced that the
action obeyed to a
destabilizing plan
against the Sandinista
government of President
Daniel Ortega.
According to the
official, opposition
deputies have made a
real show on the media,
with the only purpose of
seeking Nicaragua's
international isolation,
and favor intervention
by foreign forces. |
