Chaos for Mass Fraud in
Colombia
Bogota - Chaos continued
on Thursday in over 15
Colombian cities, in the
wake of riots and
sacking following the
closing of 66 branches
of the DRFE illegal
financial pyramid, which
swindled dozens of
thousands of savers.
Riots left one man
killed, Bairon
Santander, an attorney
from the Buesaco
municipality, in Narino
department, who was shot
by a group of
unidentified armed
people while he was
searching the DRFE
branch in Buesaco.
In Florida, in Valle del
Cauca department, 15
DRFE employees remained
locked in the office
since yesterday, under
fears of being lynched
by the angry crowd.
Other DRFE branches were
sacked, destroyed or
even burned down by
angry savers in Tulua,
Pitalito, Ipiales,
Pereira and Neiva
municipalities,
according to local press
reports.
In several towns,
authorities imposed
curfew from 7:00pm, with
police and army presence
increased in some
places.
Meanwhile, DRFE Chief
Carlos Andres Suarez,
28, remains at large.
From owning a small
parking lot, in a short
time he became the owner
of DRFE, an illegal
business which handled
savings and deceived
over two million
Colombians by offering
interests of over 200
percent.
