Guatemala - The
associations of
Guatemalan urban and
extra-urban truckers
demanded to increase
security measures to
protect workers and
users due to the wave of
violence gripping
Thursday this sector.
Nearly 107 drivers, 39
assistants, eight bus
owners, four inspectors,
and 24 passengers
throughout the country
have been killed this
year as a result of this
violence.
About 10,000 units must
also pay once a week the
so-called tax gangs
charge to allow them run
on certain roads of this
capital, owners of buses
stated.
Luis Gomez, president of
the Association of Urban
Transport Workers, said
the country will take
some measures to press
authorities, which could
paralyze that service
throughout the country.
Workers covering the
capital's north and
south are to continue
today on strike, for the
murder of a co-worker on
Monday. |
