 Hotel Tax Out, Airfare Tax In
 Costa Rica will soon be dropping the 3% hotel sales tax with a us$15 tax on all airfares to Costa Rica.

The move being considered by legislators is part of the government's plan to promote tourism within Costa Rica, geared towards promoting Ticos to visit their own country, as they would not face the payment of the airfare tax.

The move was prompted because many tourists are now staying in private homes, like condominium rentals, which are not subject to the hotel tax. The airfare tax ensures that the nstituto Costarricense de Tourismo (ICT) - Costa Rican Tourism Board -  has a guaranteed income, which funds will be used to further promote tourism to Costa Rica, both on national and international markets.

The bill received approval in first reading on Thursday and becomes law after a second vote in the Legislature.
