President Sunday Will Be
Chaotic For Traffic
Chinese President Hu
Jintao is set to visit
Costa Rica beginning
Sunday, as part of the
first visit by a Chinese
leader travels to
Central America. "It
will be a historic
visit," according to the
Ministerio de Relaciones
Exteriores y Culto de
Costa Rica
(Costa Rican Foreign
Ministry).
However, the visit will
mean a total chaos on
Sunday and Monday, as
the Policia de Transito
puts into effect a
complete closure of
major highways from the
airport to downtown San
Jose, La Sabana and
Escazu, among others.
The road closures will
take place on Sunday and
Monday and will continue
for almost two hours in
designated areas.
To ease the chaos that
the closures will
create, the government
announced a closure of
all central government
offices on Monday.
Although the times may
vary, the proposed
closures announced by
the government on
Thursday will see the
complete closure of the
General Cañas, Bernardo
Soto and the Próspero
Fernández. from 3:30pm
for a period of 90
minutes on Sunday.
On Monday, the Próspero
Fernández and the
Circunvalación to Zapote
at Casa Presidencial,
will be closed from
8:30am to 9:30am; Paseo
Colón and Avenida
Segunda will also be
affected by the closure
between 10am and 2pm.
Other areas that may be
affected by complete
closures of one or two
hours at a time are La
Uruca, La Sabana and
Rohrmoser, all routes
that may be taken by the
Chinese presidential
motorcade to visit the
Chinese embassy across
the street from the
resident of Costa Rican
president, Oscar Arias.
German Marin, director
of the Policia de
Transito, said that
exact closures and times
will be announced in
time for drivers to take
alternate routes. |
