Panama Authorities See
Drug Traffic Situation
Panama - The Panamanian
authorities are focused
on the situation of drug
trafficking in the
country, after recent
confiscation of a
shipping of over two
tons drugs in this
capital.
Officials involved in
fighting drugs asserted
that they are willing to
take action to seize
loads and stop those
involved in those
illegal activities,
either national citizens
o foreigners.
Official data published
in La Prensa daily
showed that 24 high
profile drug dealers
have been arrested in
the country during the
last 12 years.
The most recent incident
happened the past
weekend, when Mexican
Francisco Salazar was
arrested, accused of
being related to the
mentioned load, and was
trying to cross the
border.
The media said
organizations devoted to
that activity would be
reorienting their
operations towards
Panama, with a view to
using that nation for
the transit of important
amounts of drugs.
Penitentiary System
Executive board members
said 11 high profile
drug dealers are
currently in prisons of
the country, waiting to
be extradited.
