Cuban Provinces on
Hurricane Alarm
Havana - The Cuban
National Guard called
Saturday a hurricane
alarm phase for the
central and eastern
Cuban provinces, faced
with the proximity and
intensification of
Hurricane Paloma.
The decision includes
the provinces of
Camaguey, Las Tunas,
Holguin, Granma,
Santiago de Cuba and
Guantanamo, as well as
the southern
municipalities of Ciego
de Avila, threatened by
the category-four
phenomenon on the Saffir
Simpson scale of five.
The national guard
stated in its third
release that those
territories must fulfil
a group of measures like
the protection of
people, economic
resources, and goods,
mainly in coastal
settlements, mountainous
zones and possible flood
areas.
State organizations and
entities and people in
general must keep
informed and rigorously
fulfil the guidelines,
stated the official
note.
According to the Cuban
Institute of
Meteorology, Hurricane
Paloma is a powerful
system with maximum
sustained winds of 134
mph.
It is moving slowly
toward the northeast
Caribbean Sea at 7 mph. |
