More Tourists Expected
This High Season Despite
Global Financial Crisis
According to estimates
by the ministerio de
Turismo (Tourism
ministry), some 872.141
tourists will be
visiting Costa Rica
during the upcoming "high"season,
despite the global
crisis
The ministro de Turismo,
Carlos Ricardo
Benavides, said that the
number is 26.895 more
tourists that last
year's high tourist
season which begins this
month and runs until
May.
"I see the high season
with optimism and
moderation. The last was
very good and is a
parameter difficult to
overcome", said
Benavides.
For his part, the
director of the Cámara
Nacional de Turismo (Canatur),
Alberto López, estimates
that the number of
tourists will be 43.000
higher than last year.
Pablo Solano, director
of the Cámara
Costarricense de Hoteles
(CCH), added that
international fairs will
be an important factor
in the high numbers.
Minister Benavides added
that the higher tourism
will be due to
promotions on New York
and San Fransciso buses
as well as other points
in the "Big Apple" where
tourists are invited to
discover Costa Rica. |
