Honduras Hosts Summit on
Climate Change
Foreign and Agriculture
ministers are discussing
the agenda of the summit
on climate change
scheduled for Wednesday
in San Pedro Sula, in
the northern coast of
Honduras.
Under the slogan
Committed to Global
Environment, the
presidents of Mexico,
Central American and
Caribbean countries will
discuss the impact of
this phenomenon in the
region and agree on
guidelines to create a
common strategy.
President Manuel Zelaya
invited his peers to
join hands to discuss
and implement policies
leading to strengthen
cooperation, protect the
environment and prevent
and mitigate the impacts
of climate change.
Presidents Felipe
Calderon (Mexico),
Alvaro Colom
(Guatemala), Antonio
Saca (El Salvador),
Daniel Ortega
(Nicaragua), Martin
Torrijos (Panama) and
Prime Minister Dean
Barrow (Belize) have
confirmed their
attendance.
Representatives of the
governments of Antigua
and Barbuda, Bahamas,
Barbados, Dominica,
Grenada, Guyana, Haiti,
Jamaica, Motserrat, St.
Kitts and Nevis, St.
Lucia, St. Vincent and
the Grenadines, Suriname
and Trinidad and Tobago
are also expected to
take part in the
gathering.
According to Director of
IUCN (the International
Union for the
Conservation of Nature),
Grethel Aguilar, the
population will become
less vulnerable if they
manage water resources
better and preserve
natural resources more.
