Last Day For Public
Officials To Declare
Their Assets
At 4:00pm today all
public officials must
present their statement
of assets to the
Contraloría General de
la República
(Comptroller's office),
as required under the
Ley de Enriquecimiento
Ilícito.
The law that attempts to
end corruption of public
officials requires a
statement to be filed
within the first 15
working days of May of
each year in order to
comply.
However, only 80% of the
10.500 public officials
required to file their
statement have done so.
The Ley de
Enriquecimiento Ilícito
requires all public
officials, including the
president of the
country, to declare
their assets, including
their salaries, credit
cards and any bonds and
credit their have with
financial institutions,
for example.
