Colombian Chief Of ICRC
resigns For Failing To
Rescue Hostages

Hintermann resigned from
her post Tuesday for
failing to free hostages
held by a rebel group.
Hintermann expressed
concern for the
deteriorating health of
the hostages held by the
Armed Revolutionary
Forces of Colombia (FARC).
Hintermann told Radio
Caracol she was proud of
having participated in
the rescue of six people
kidnapped by FARC but
felt greatly frustrated
at not having been able
to rescue all the
hostages held by the
guerrillas.
Hintermann will be
replaced by Christophe
Beney, a 40-year-old
Swiss national who has
been working for the
ICRC for more than 20
years, with experience
in Iraq, Burundi,
Russia, Angola and
former Yugoslavia.
