Costa Rican Women Suffer
Discrimination
Only 20% of Costa Rican
PYMES -Pequeñas y
Mediana Empresas (small
and medium businesses)
is run by women, a study
by the National State
Remote University
revealed on Wednesday.
The situation contrasts
with the number of PYMES
employees, where women
represent 40%, said
Lizzette Brenes, a
coordinator of the
study.
At least 97%of formal
businesses in Costa Rica
belong to the PYMES
sector.
Other studies note that
in Costa Rica, working
women are facing labor
discrimination in all
social strata, which can
be openly seen in the
formal economy salaries
that are between 30% and
50% lower than those
earned by men in the
same trade and with the
same hours.
