ICE
Customers Can Make
Payment Arrangements
Many of the 554.000 GSM
cellular telephone
customers forced by the
Institutio Costarricense
de Electricidad (ICE) to
make payments every 15
days instead of monthly
may find some relief as
a number of customers
filed complaints with
the Autoridad Reguladora
de los Servicios
Públicos (Aresep) -
regulating body.
The Aresep says it has
received 50 complaints
so far and at least 500
requests for information
on the ICE billing,
which was initiated so
that the institution can
recover past due bills
which were caused by
ICE's problems with its
billing system.
ICE spokesperson, Elbert
Durán, said that the
institution will enter
into payment
arrangements with
customers who find it
difficult to make the
twice monthly payments,
but only if they visit
an ICE agency and make a
request. Durán added
that each request will
be analyzed separately.
