Hurricane Season
Officially Underway
Today is June 1st and
the official start of
the Hurricane season for
the Atlantic, Caribbean
and the Gulf of Mexico.
The Colorado State
University
climatologists William
Gray and Phil Klotzbach
In April they called for
15 named storms,
including eight
hurricanes, four of them
with winds greater than
110 mph.
The forecast is that two
of the hurricanes will
affect strongly Costa
Rica.
The team will update
their forecast for the
2008 Atlantic hurricane
season Tuesday.
The National Oceanic and
Atmospheric
Administration will
update its outlook on
Aug. 7, which is at the
beginning of the busiest
stretch of the six-month
season. NOAA last week
called for 12 to 16
named storms, including
six to nine hurricanes,
two to five of those
major.
Seasonal outlooks have
come under criticism
because some private and
government forecasters
say they hold no real
