Mother's Day Back To
August 15
Mother's Day in Costa
Rica is August 15 and is
a legal holiday that
falls on a Friday.
However, unlike the
other legal holidays
which fall during a
weekday are moved to the
following Monday,
Mother's Day will be
celebrated on the 15th
as is tradition.
During the last two
years, Mother's Day and
all other holidays
falling on a weekday
were moved to the
following Monday to
promote tourism.
Erick Briones, legal
chief of the Inspección
de Trabajo, explained
that article 148 of the
Código de Trabajo (Labour
Code) allows for
Mother's Day not to be
moved to the following
Monday.
The holiday is a paid
holiday and employees
who are asked to work on
the day must be paid
double.
