5.0 Earthquake Registered Friday Afternoon
Costa Rica shook and rolled yesterday for almost four minutes as an earthquake registering 5.0 on the Richter scale was hit the country at 5:35pm.

The four minutes is an estimation by the Observatorio Vulcanológico y Sismológico de Costa Rica (OVSICORI) station that recorded the quake whose epicentre was 10 kilometres southwest of San Isidro de Pérez Zeledón.

Rodolfo Van der Laat, of the OVSICORI, said that it is normal for such quakes of such long duration and reminded that Costa Rica is a seismic zone and for sure it will continue to shake and roll.

The quake was felt mostly in the southern zone, but also in the Central Valley, as the Coco and Caribe plates collide.
