Argentina Willing To
Improve Ties With U.S.
Argentine President
Christina Fernandez said
Thursday that her
country was willing to
improve relations with
the United States and
reinforce their
traditional friendship.
After a meeting with
U.S. Ambassador Earl
Wayne who termed it
friendly and fruitful,
Fernandez emphasized the
importance of the
Argentine-U.S. relations
and expressed hope for
the two countries to
take joint action to
enhance and consolidate
bilateral ties.
Wayne briefed the
president on the latest
progress concerning the
investigation on an
alleged scheme to
smuggle 800,000 U.S.
dollars to a
presidential candidate
in Argentina and said
the whole legislative
proceedings don't have
any link to the U.S.
government.
Wanye added that the
United States and
Argentina share common
stances and interests in
many fields and the U.S.
government hopes to
enhance cooperation with
Argentina in all fields.
Argentine Chief of
Cabinet Alberto
Fernandez and Foreign
Minister Jorge Taiana
were also present at the
meeting.
U.S. authorities have
arrested three
Venezuelans on charges
of being undeclared
agents for Venezuela
involved in a scheme to
smuggle 800,000 U.S.
dollars to Argentina's
presidential campaign.
Argentina has lashed
back on charges by a
U.S. court that
Venezuela sent a
cash-filled suitcase to
Argentina to fund
Fernandez's presidential
campaign.
