Nicaragua Waits For 12
Powerhouses From
Venezuela
Nicaragua is waiting for
12 20-megawatt electric
powerhouses from
Venezuela in
mid-February, said the
head of Empresa
Nicaragüense de
Electricidad (ENEL)
Gabriel Alvarado.
The 12 power plants are
coming in addition to
other 24 power plants
delivered last Tuesday
in Nicaragua under a
cooperation plan
implemented by the
Venezuelan government,
Alvarado added,
according to AP.
Alvarado said the
generators would be
installed in the towns
of Tipitapa and Masaya,
east Managua, with
operations starting in
May.
Late Tuesday, in a
nationwide mandatory
radio and TV speech,
Ortega said President
Hugo Chávez sent the
powerhouses "without any
conditions," under the
Bolivarian Alternative
of the Americas (ALBA).
Further Ortega endorsed
the creation of a
military alliance with
Venezuela under ALBA. In
his view, Chávez's
proposal to organize the
Army of ALBA is intended
to strengthen Nicaragua
before countries such as
