Venezuela Invests
Millions in Electricity
Caracas - The Venezuelan
government this year
began investing several
millions in electricity
to jump start a sector
in crisis after nearly
two decades of private
control.
Visible signs of that
de-capitalization, which
led to a national
emergency plan, were
three national blackouts
and many other local
ones this year.
The National Electricity
Corporation (CORPOELEC)
announced more than
13.80 billion dollars
have been approved to
fund 34 structural
projects, including 16
power generation plans
until 2014.
CORPOELEC president
Hipolito Izquierdo said
recently that the first
results to optimize the
electricity system have
been already achieved
this year, such as the
addition of about 1,400
megabytes.
Next year, power
generation will increase
from 16,000 to 18,000
megabytes, he noted. |
