80 Killed In Christmas
holidays in Central
America
Managua - At least 80
people died in accidents
or crimes during the
Christmas holidays in
Nicaragua, Guatemala and
Honduras, news reports
reaching here said on
Friday.
The Nicaraguan National
Police (PN) and the Red
Cross (CRN) reported at
least 19 have died in
Nicaragua during
Christmas celebrations.
Among the dead, five
people were killed in
traffic accidents in
Jinotega department,
north of Nicaragua, the
PN reported.
A 25-year-old man was
shot dead by an
unidentified person on
Wednesday, the PN said.
At least four people
were drowned in
Nicaraguan beaches on
Dec.24 and Dec. 25 as a
result of drunken
swimming, the CRN
reported.
In Guatemala, some 30
people died in
homicides, among them
six women, the
Guatemalan Civil
National Police (PNC)
reported.
In Honduras, 32 people
have died in accidents,
drowned or in crimes
during the Christmas
celebrations.
