No More Temporary Plates
The Registro Nacional
(National Registry) says
it will stop the
practice of issuing
temporary license plates
for newly registered
vehicles, and will be
issuing the permanent
metal plates in only two
- yes, two - days.
The change is due to an
improvement to the way
the Registro issues
license plates for new
and used vehicles and to
eliminate the problem
faces by police by
criminals who remove the
paper permit from the
windshield, to commit
their crimes, and the
inability for witnesses
to take down a license
plate number because it
does not exist.
The practice of waiting
up to 60 days for a
permanent metal license
plate for all new and
used vehicle
registration comes to an
end on January 5, 2009,
when the Registro
re-opens for business
after the holiday
closings.
All registrants of new
and used vehicles who
submit a complete
request that includes
the Riteve inspection
certificate, can pick up
their permanent metal
plates within two days
of submission.
As such all vehicles
circulating without a
metal license plate will
be stopped by police. |
