Multipolar World
Moscow - President
Dmitri Medvedev ratified
today that Russian
presence in Latin
America and the
Caribbean, together with
key partners in the
subcontinent respond to
Russian Federation´s
political will.
It´s not a temporal
factor, but an option
assumed consciously, he
assured after signing a
joint political
declaration with his
Nicaraguan peer, Daniel
Ortega, in the Kremlin
Malakite hall.
Russia perceives Latin
American and Caribbean
nations as an important
actor of the
international political
process and one of the
promoting centers of the
multipolar world, he
added corresponding to
the contents of the
sealed document after
bilateral talks.
The Eurasian head of
State advocated to
strengthening unity and
integration in the
nations of that area of
the planet and, in
particular, he
reiterated interest in
the projects of the
Bolivarian Alternative
for the Peoples of our
America (ALBA).
In the text, the parties
welcomed the results of
the First Summit of
Latin American and
Caribbean Countries,
recently ended in
Brazil.
In reference to
Nicaragua, Medvedev
backed the efforts of
that country as part of
the format of the
Central American
Integration System (SICA).
On this issue, the
signatories committed to
boost exchanges as part
of a memorandum of
understanding to
establish a mechanism of
dialogue between Russia
and that bloc.
Medvedev announced his
support to the
initiative of holding a
meeting of Foreign
Ministers of Russia and
SICA in the first half
of 2009.
He welcomed the
Nicaraguan proposal to
study the feasibility of
Russia´s public and
private sector
participating in the
construction of an
inter-oceanic channel
through its territory
for deep-draft ships.
This project should be
regulated by
International Law and we
are pleased that Managua
invites the Russian
Federation and other
states, said Medvedev.
The Kremlin chief
informed having received
an invitation from
Ortega to visit
Nicaragua, which he
accepted and agreed that
the best date is set
through diplomatic
channels. |
